Of the few known Pennsylvania settees with landscape decoration on the crest, this is the finest example. A Pennsylvania fireboard, possibly by the same artist, sold in “The American Folk Art Collection of Sandy and Julie Palley”, Sotheby’s, January 2002, lot 941.

Maker / Origin: Att. to William F. Snyder, Mifflintown Chairworks, Juniata County, PA
Medium: Mixed woods with the original painted, stenciled and free-hand decorated finish.
Miscellaneous: Inscribed on underside, “P. A. Hart” Inscription on back of center splat reads “Painted by Andrew Hinnes (?) I bought this settee from Jacob Kramer estate who purchased it from the (?) Jacob Fegly Scwatt 3/10 '12" Provenance: Joe Kindig, Jr. & Son Antiques, York, PA; The Pioneer Americana Collection of Dr. & Mrs. Donald A Shelley sold at Pook & Pook, Downingtown, PA, April 2007; a private collection.
