The exceptional condition of the painted and gilded finish on this fireman’s parade hat can be attributed to the fact that it retains the original hatbox with paper lining dated ‘1850’. Made for the ‘America Hose’ Company it retains the original maker’s label of Edward D. Clery, 240 Market St., Philadelphia.
