An exceptional and rare piece of Shaker furniture

Date / Circa: Circa 1820
Maker / Origin: Hancock, Massachusetts
Medium: Pine with the original dry red-painted finish.
Miscellaneous: This bench was found recently in a barn in Columbia County, New York and was never previously altered within the Community. It is in a remarkable state of preservation with the exquisite joinery found in fine Shaker pieces. The red painted surface remains intact and untouched. A related example is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC. A smaller example is in the collection of Shaker Community, Inc., Hancock, Massachusetts.
