Two Mortised Benches

These classic Pennsylvania benches with shaped legs mortised thru the seat and often with angled supports on the back side were found at every farmhouse in the 19th century across the state. They were not only used for seating but also as work benches for buckets and tubs.

Medium: Pine, the top example retaining the original red painted finish, the bottom with a skirt board retaining a mauve painted finish.
