Inscribed into the paint on the reverse “Birthday Present, from A.A. Adams, to Rosy Ann Adams, March 1st, 1857. Six years old. Remember the giver.” It is likely that the recipient of this box was Rose Adams Northup (1851-1923) who was born in Vermont. She married William Brown Alverson, Jr. (1851-1931) in 1875 and lived in Providence, Rhode Island.
