The younger holding a kite, and the older a bow and arrow. Inscribed in pencil on the original strainer, "G. B. Baldwin, Esq New London". The sitters are likely Sidney Ramsdell Miner (1836-1855) and Frederick William Miner (1840-1888) of New London, CT. Their father, Sidney Miner (1805-1881) was a businessman and very active in local politics.
