Fraktur Taufschein for Michael Bossert. Translation: Michael Bossert was born into this world on 26 February in the year 1766 of Christian Lutheran parents. His Godfather Johann Michael Ritter has had this baptismal certificate made for him in celebration thereof. His Godmother was Margaretha Beck.

For a related example, see Minardi, Drawn with Spirit, Pennsylvania German Fraktur from the Joan and Victor Johnson Collection, p. 50.

There are very few early fraktur that have survived by the artist coined the ‘”Tall Soldiers Artist” who worked in Northampton County, Pennsylvania. Recently discovered, this birth and baptismal certificate bears the early date of “1766” and although it does not bear the soldier figures, the artist included the very primitive angels and roosters found on other examples.
