The inscription on the reverse indicates that the subject of this watercolor is Samuel Wilkins (1783-1811) of Amherst, New Hampshire.  Wilkins was one of the victims of the Richmond (VA) Theatre fire on December 26, 1811, that killed 72 people, and was the worst urban disaster in American history at that time.
