This is one of a small group of landscapes and portraits of farms by the same, unidentified hand who likely worked in the Lake Champlain areas of Vermont, New York State, and Quebec. One example is illustrated on the dustjacket of Robert Bishop’s Folk Painters of America (1979). Another example is in the collection of the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Center and one was sold, Skinner, Boston, 27 October 2013, lot 13. A signed example, inscribed “Buildings of Station/ S.S. & C. Junction/ J. McCambridge Agent/ T Bonneau (drawer) [sic] Iberville PQ”, was previously with Joan Brownstein.
