The date was “December 6, 1943” according to the artist’s label affixed to the canvas. And in sharp contrast to the peaceful, idyllic winter country scene depicted by Grandma Moses, the world was at war. On Christmas Eve the painting was sold by The American British Art Center in New York City to the well-known author Ida A. Wylie of Princeton, NJ. The proceeds were reportedly for the benefit of the war relief organization ‘Bundles for Britain’. We are very pleased to be offering this important and classic work of American folk art.
