Mixed woods with the original painted, stenciled and free-hand decorated finish.

Inscribed on underside, “P. A. Hart” with a further Inscription on back of center splat reading “Painted by Andrew Hinnes (?) I bought this settee from Jacob Kramer estate who purchased it from the (?) Jacob Fegly Scwatt 3/10 '12"

Provenance: Joe Kindig, Jr. & Son Antiques, York, PA; The Pioneer Americana Collection of Dr. & Mrs. Donald A Shelley sold at Pook & Pook, Downingtown, PA, April 2007; a private collection.

Of the few known Pennsylvania settees with landscape decoration on the crest, this is the finest example. A Pennsylvania fireboard, possibly by the same artist, sold in “The American Folk Art Collection of Sandy and Julie Palley”, Sotheby’s, January 2002, lot 941.  Another related fireboard is in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
