A portrait of George E. Little (1834-after 1860).  Inscribed on reverse, “G.E. Little April 25, 1837”

This folk art portrait of a boy depicts George Edmund Little,  the son of Amos (1796-1859) and Ann Brickett of Springfield, New Hampshire.  Amos was a hatter by trade and George, along with his older brother Charles, entered the successful family business.  George married Sarah Jane Welcome in 1859 and later became an expressman (Wheeler, The History of Newport, New Hampshire: From 1766 to 1878 (1879), p. 462-463).
