An extremely rare and important lift-top chest over drawers with two over one false drawer fronts over two full drawers on ball feet.
Maker / Origin: Guilford, Connecticut, c.1725-35
Tulip poplar with oak ball feet and chestnut lid cleats retaining the original cotter pin hinges and black-painted and polychrome-decorated surface.
Dimensions: Ht. 42.5″, OAW 38.75″, OAD 19.25″
Condition: Exceptional, original structural condition. Only the brass pulls have been restored. A 19th c. over varnish was removed as it obscured the strength of color of the remarkably intact original painted finish.
Provenance: Descended in the original Guilford family until 1925 when it was acquired by a private collector where it has remained until recently purchased.
