According to Quilts in America by Patsy & Myron Orlofsky, the “LeMoyne Star” is amongst the earliest of the star patterns and was named after Jean Baptiste and Pierre LeMoyne the founders of New Orleans in 1718. The Orlofskys note: “Through a gradual corruption of pronunciation, the “LeMoyne Star” became known as the “Lemon Star” in New England.”
